Surbiton Station bicycle thief gets 5 years

A labourer from Bromley is convicted by Transport Police using CCTV footage.

Update: Station bike thief on the run May 24, 2007

Daniel Westrop, 27, had been stealing bicycles for the last three years from various railway stations between Fleet and Waterloo.

In particular he would target West Byfleet, Walton on Thames, Brookwood and Surbiton stations, stealing predominantly men's mountain bikes left locked up to cycle racks by commuters.

A Transport Police spokesman said, "A good quality lock and ensuring the bike is secured to a cycle rack, which are often covered by CCTV cameras at railway stations, can also minimise the risk of getting bikes stolen."
