Mary Lawson's first novel, Crow Lake, was admired by critics and adored by readers all over the world; translated into 23 languages and published in 25 countries, it was a New York Times bestseller and spent 75 weeks on the bestseller lists in her native Canada.

She was born and brought up in a farming community in Ontario, a distant relative of L. M. Montgomery, author of Anne of Green Gables. Lawson came to England in 1968, is married with two grown-up sons and lives in Kingston-upon-Thames.

To launch the Surbiton Festival fortnight, we are celebrating the work undertaken by local residents and businesses as part of both Kingston Borough Business Watch and Surbiton Neighbourhood Watch.

There will be a three course meal at Glenmore House in The Crescent on Friday 11th September with a ticket price of just £30.

As the borough is forced to make drastic cuts, Kingston Council leader Kevin Davis has announced a series of talks where he will meet residents to find out which services they value most and which they could see cut.

Launch meeting for a new community wildlife group for Surbiton. Organiser Tom Hooker will be talking alongside a local ecologist about plans and local wildlife.

Evening includes a raffle and there will be complimentary wine and canapes privided by Glenmore House.
