Hi all
Can anyone recommend a good hairdresser in Surbiton?
I need a good cut and someone who can do me a nice style - but don't want to pay extortionate prices
Any ideas?

This page is just full of all the salons making story up about each other it is so stupid why do it to each other ??? Why not just focus on your own businesses ?? If you are a good salon u will b succesful if u r not u shall fail !!!
I took my 19 month daughter to have her hair cut at Mitch. I think they thought she was a boy. It's the only explanation I can come up with as to why they put lots of layers into what was shaping into a nice bob. Probably the worst £12 I've ever spent and now we need to try and grow the layers out.
Btw for ladies hair cuts and colour - Firefly in Hampton Court is really good!
That just sounds dodgy, why take your daughter to a salon then go on about how good another salon is?(my daughter had a bad hair cut,but firefly is great)Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I aM so glad I have found this website to reconise the service and team I revived at the new headmasters salon in surbiton. I had a all over colour and a cut by the salon manager or she may also be owner. She haS done a marvelous job and kept me calm as it was my first time or colour ! I have used other headmasters salon for my cuts .... And each headmasters salon I go to the standard seems to be getting better and better. The whole team not only looked after me but also my toddler I had to bring along (no child care!!) do just thought I would express how fabulous I feel with my new hair and even tho I am moving out of surbiton I shall be coming back to headmasters surbiton (and a visit to cest Bon!!) they hve a customer for life here!!

i was looking for headmasters head office telephone number to explain my situation and i came across this site
im surprised this person who done your hair didnt do the same job for me and my sister? infact
i used to go to headmasters richmond before i moved to surbiton and after trying their surbiton salon i see the difference here! unorganised management team, only intrested in your money! thats how i would genuinely describe this salon.
how about the other review about the local estate agent story and his lady friend colour deal on mondays? are we advertising offers here or reviewing???
genuine reviews will be appreciated for surbiton locals
You revived them? I hope they were grateful enough not to charge you for the hair colour.
I disagree as I would describe their salon very cold atmosphere and their staff seems very unexperienced and amateur.
I had the highest person who didnt look no older than 19 and just loved her self too much ! I had My hi lights done and a cut and it cost so much made my husband go mad! we are very diappointed, so my husband decided to go arround surbiton salons and ask to see if they charge us the same for the same service and we relised even toni&guy charges less! not only that I mean the colour looks lighter on top than the ends and lets just leave the cut.....
Im sorry I do not recommend headmaster surbiton to any one
If you can be bothered to drive over to West Ewell and don't want to bother with one of the big chains I can highly recommend Helen at Hair @55 (Poole Road, West Ewell). It is a 'local' hairdresser without the gloss of the big chains but it also friendly, down to earth and you get a good haircut or colour at a good price. I think I paid about £70 ish for three colour foils and a cut and blow dry.
Before the cynics start I am not connected with the salon in any way except that of customer - have been going to Helen for approximately four years after a recommendation from a friend.
Does anyone else have any good recommendations for independent stylists or local hairdressers away from the big chains. I think you often get better service from the smaller salons and it is important to support our local businesses especially in these times of recession.
hi i work in one of the estate agents on the high street and i tryed the new headmasters salon in surbiton this evening (after being recommended by a client viewing properties!!!) and must say i am very very pleased with the results and will be recommending to all my friends and family (espically as i will get my cuts half price for doing so!!!) from start to finish my service i recived was 5* even tho the team all seem to b in there early twentys they where all very professional and confident hairdressers. Even tho ther eprices are not cheap.. i felt i got what i payed for. one of the other girls in the office who has foils tryed there monday offer out and was very pleased too. we seem to finally have a great salon in surbiton !!!!
This review is so obviously written by someone involved with Headmasters!
emmmm....
I had booked to have my hair cut yesterday evening at the new branch of Headmaster sin Surbiton. I have used Headmasters in Putney and New Malden frequently over the last few years and so was positive about the branch opening near my new home. I was slightly perturbed by the receptionist who took my booking who didn't appear that professional and who was obviously talking on his mobile phone to someone else, however that wasn't a deal breaker. What was terminal though was how I was treated when I arrived at the salon later that day. First af all there was no one at reception, the place felt dead, just a couple of customers underlights but no staff any where to be seen. Eventually someone turned up (the unprofessional receptionist from earlier) and I apologised for being 10 minutes late (train form Waterloo delayed) - having been asked to wait at least 10 minutes by hairdressers on numerous other occasions when I have been on time I didn't anticipate this being a big problem. Yesterday evening I was initially asked to wait two minutes. I checked whether this was a ridiculously optimistic forecast and whether 10 minutes would be more realistic and was asked to come back in 20 minutes. Not ideal but I had been late and so I accepted. After 20 minutes I returned and was told by the stylist I would have to wait yet another 20 minutes. And when I explained that this is precisely what I had been told by her colleague previously I was shocked at her obvious lack of concern or respect for a customer and complete lack of any sense of responsibility for the misleading advice delivered by one of her colleagues. Never again.
I went to the new head masters in surbiton high street a couple of days a go and I think I had the salon owner the young girl with lots of make over and dark hair cut and coloured my hair, firstly she was very rude with attitude problems! she is very snobby and wasnt intrested in me as a customer, secondly the colour is patchy and not even i really dont want to go back as im terrified my hair will fall out, its so damaged it breaking every time I brush my hair. Im so angry I feel like writing to their head office! I thought I go some where local but I surely wont be using headmastersin surbiton ever again!
I have been to Hair by Mitch 3 times. Friendly but not particularly professional. The receptionist likes the sound of her voice too much and the junior when washing my hair was too busy talking over my head telling others about her weekend but not really interested in anything I had to say. On my first and second visit I stuck with the same stylist and although I asked for a bit of a change and some new ideas, she just seemed to give me a bit of a trim with no advice on how to style it. I was thinking of changing salons but thought I would give them one last chance and was put in with Vince. his ideas were fantastic and I left the salon with a great haircut with good knowledge of how to style it myself. The salon to me seems a bit of a contradiction because although it is decked out to look relaxing and a bit bohemium I found that I was deafened by kids running around watching Peppa Pig as it seeems to be geared up to be a kids salon. I come to the salon to relax and get away from my kids. Not to have to put up with other children out of control which on the times I have been there has always seemed to be the issue. Vince is wasted there and if he was working at any other salon I would go back to him as his style and approach to hairdressing is refreshing but it is not my idea of fun and relaxation to have to go to a salon which seems to contrast this
I've been to Hair by Mitch since they opened and to be honest, the only time that I didn't like the hair cut was when Vince cut it. It was ok but not up to the standard I expected from the salon.
I've never seen the receptionist talking too much, which I presume is what is meant by liking the "sound of her voice too much" and not one of the staff has ever talked to their colleagues about their weekend etc when washing, cutting or drying my hair.
Yes the salon does cut children's hair and children have been there when I've had my hair cut but they've never been out of control, they don't run round the salon and ruin the atmosphere. All they do is watch the video while they get their hair cut or play quietly in the corner.
I am very fussy about who cuts my hair and it took me a long time to change to a hairdresser in Surbiton because I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find a good hairdresser, but I'm really glad I found Mitch. The staff do look after you and they are professional. The above review seems a bit strange to me, because it certainly doesn't describe the salon I use but then everyone's entitled to their viewpoint.

Dear "Hot Totty"
Im deeply concerned to hear comments like this from one of our regular customers. Talking over customers heads is inexcusable and your comment will be addressed directly with the team.
Many of our regular customers have children and it is natural for us to extend our service to the whole family. However, I appreciate that their presence can change the ambience, particularly given the intimate nature of the salon so we have a policy in place which means children are only given appointments during certain hours.
I would be pleased to offer you a complimentary appointment (with either Vince or myself as you wish) outside these times when you can relax and enjoy the tranquil environment experienced by the majority of our customers. If you would like to accept this offer, please contact the salon on 0208 390 0104 with the date of your last appointment with Vince so we can check our records.
We work very hard to offer the highest levels of service at all times and actively encourage customer feedback to ensure that we are succeeding in meeting everyone's expectations. Regular customers normally recieve an email inviting feedback and we are sorry if you were unable to use this facility as it would have enabled us to contact you directly and address your concerns without delay.
I look forward to your call
Love
Mitch
Hi, has any one tried the new headmasters yet? my friend has been to them in surbiton last week for her hair cut but she seems unhappy about how they didnt listen to her and her hair too short! I wonder if any one else had a bad result ? i have used their kingston branch for the past 2 years and been happy but recently i thought i get charged too much really when i can have the same thing done for less in surbiton high street and also it looks like they are always rushing on me!
Can any one recommend a good hairdressers in surbiton please?
thanx
Hi, I went there last week and had half price cut but there is nothing special about it at all! I'd rather going to their kingston salon next time, they seem to be better there!
the other thing is the atmosphere seems very cold. I dont recommend them
I tried the new salon opened opp waitrose last weekend and had a great result, its very personal in there rather than salons only intrested in your money! its worth going back
I went to hair by mitch and had a new girl do my hair I was very nervous as I have been to several hairdressers since moving to surrey with very disapointing results so I just asked her to trim my fringe ..... she cut a big chuck out of the side of my hair which was'nt even part of my hair...I am devastated it is going to take ages for it to grow back she also trim the layers at the front and they are now all different lengths I am too scared to try anymore hairdresser after this awful experience and have decided to just wear my hair up in a ponytail until this disaster grows out.....I would not reccomend Hair by mitch at all.
"she cut a big chuck out of the side of my hair which was'nt even part of my hair...I am devastated"
Well, who's hair was it then?
I was wondering what she/he was on about as well, doesn't ring true somehow !
I have run websites in the past that dealt with UK restaurants. The number of reviews you could count back to other local restaurants was extremely high. Funny enough, they always had horrific stories to tell. Then they'd comment about their own place about how great it is.
Perhaps the site should show a hash of an anonymous posters IP address, so we know when they are posting libel?
Hi, why dont you try hair xcel opp waitrose on claremont road? i had may hair cut there and it was really good only £18 !!! introductory offer!!
Dear Anon
I am very sorry to hear about your experience at my salon, please accept my sincere apologies for any distress and inconvienence that we may have caused.
Our repuation as the leading salon in Surbiton is very important to me personally and am very concerned that you have posted a complaint on a website, yet as the salon owner its the first I have heard of the incident. If you would like to contact me at the salon I will arrange for the matter to be addressed immediately.
All our stylists are fully trained and have over 15 years experience and "cutting chunks" certainly isnt our normal practice. I would be very interested to know the date and time of your appointment so we can check our records and I can raise your complaint with the actual stylist concerned.
Please call the salon on 0208 390 0104 and ask to speak to me, I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best wishes
Mitch
Oh my goodness... You didn't pay for it did you ?? I hope you complained.
The best hairdresser to have is one who has been recommended by someone who's hair you love..
Good luck and I hope it grows back quickly.
Just moved to surbiton can any one recommend a good hairdressers? Not quite sure what (who is shimi? y shimi might aswell call it dimmi!! wot?) is all about i thought this was for good hairdressers not to say thing like that.they need to grow up.
who is shimi? y shimi might aswell call it dimmi!! wot?
I highly recommend Kevin - he has been doing my hair for years now - just recently moved to surbiton myself and he covers this area too. I personally like him as he books appointments for all hours of the day and i usually only get home at 7pm. Best hairdresser and mobile so what more can you want

I AGREE!! Dominic has been doing my hair for years and is always fantastic. The whole salon is such a great place to go for an all round relaxing, professional experience - and very good value for money!
provided you don't turn up for your appt at 5:30pm and get seen at 6:05 pm after commuting from London to be on time.
I always have Dominic & Jenner to cut and colour my hair at Shimi's and they are very good. Also the salon has just been refurbished and looks really upmarket.
I would wait for the new salon opening opposit waitrose called HAIR XCEL! they have 4 salons around hampton wick, hanworth, west drayton areas i been told and all busy! I spoke to their builders and they said it'll be open in feb/10 , im sure they will do introductory offers !!!
Go see Vince at Mitches... its a great salon and Vince is fantastic.
ive heard next month there is going to be a headmasters opening at the top of high street opposite macdonalds!! cant wait as they are all i use and currently do the hectic journey to there kingston branch, find all the girls great and a great atmosphere, also real value for money especially with the opening deals!!
Didn't Headmasters used to be down there - in the building by the Surbiton Plaza development?
I notice another hairdressers is about to open in the shop that used to be 'Travel Plans' opposite Waitrose on Claremont Road.
Hi, ive tried them today for my high lights & cut, they know their business, im happy. Its called "Hair Xcel" Opp waitrose, claremont road xx
I agree, ive had mine done last week!
thanks for your advice
Im not sure if thats true! however i walked past waitrose a few days a go and i notice opposit there seems to be new salon opening up called "HAIR XCEL"
im sure there will be some kind of introductory offers going on!?
any ideas any 1 if it is a chain or a new salon? x
VISIT www.hairxcel.com
it looks like its a chain but they've used different names for all salons within the area, how ever i've heard theyre gonna change all their salons to hair xcel!!! ive been to stylish in hampton wick which is the same people, they did say they are gonna do a new salon so surbiton HAIR XCEL must be them so i've been told
thats right ive been to stylish hair salon too and its them. i would defo go to them once its open, apparently its oppening on 1st of march! I have gained so much trust in there services and that fact that its such a friendly enviroment i feel good when im there :P
nicely designed salon, my sister in law tried xcel last week and she was very happy! Im booked in today! Cant wait my roots are showing!! Lets see how my hair turns out?! Ill write about it later...x
Recommended!
Shimi is very good - Get Domonic to do your hair - He is excellent
I think Shimi is good but lately she has become v unreliable. Last time I turned up I was on time but she was 30 minutes late when it was time for my appt. She was about 10-15 mins late the couple of times before that so I don't find that acceptable so will be looking somewhere else.
i'd go to stone in kingston instead.
garett& jones victoria rd.BEST hair cut i.ve ever had.lovely friendly salon.not one of those ones that you feel like you should of done your hair be for you go.all busy.so that says it all.
Hi,
I go to Shimi and get my hair cut by Shimi herself. The service is great and I always come out with a style which reflects my personality and style. I have struggled in the past to look for a good hairdresse but Shimi is great.
Hi,
I usually go to Shimi in Surbiton. Emilie cuts my hair, she is very good. Unfortunately she seems to have left, does anyone know where she has gone. I presume it is the hairdressers policy not to give you this information in case they lose lots of clients.
