Idle chit chat about Surbiton

Which is the ugliest building in Surbiton?

Prompted by the discussion about Hotel Bosco, I was thinking that particular building is very ugly - or do I mean simply very plain? It looks like a stack of Portakabins with a bit of wood cladding on top. Another contender for ugliest building must be the one with Costa Coffee and Cancer Research in the ground floor on Victoria Road. Then again the multi-storey car park/ Sainsbury's is a blot on Surbiton's main shopping street too. Hopefully someone will come along and redevelop that site into somethig more aesthetic soon.

Are you searching for a member of your family? New ITV series could help.

Is there someone important missing in your family – someone you’d love to be reunited with? Perhaps you are adopted and long to find your birth family, or maybe you’d love to meet the father you’ve never known?

The makers of the highly acclaimed BBC family history series ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ might be able to help find them for you. In a heart warming new television series for ITV, Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell are reuniting long lost relatives who have been affected by adoption or family separation.

Hogsmill Sewage works - Is work really starting?

Hi All,
Am about to purchase somewhere in berrylands, so have been doing some reading up on the odor from the sewage works. It appears from the Kingston council website, and the thames water website that investment is being given to enclose the works in buildings to reduce/stop odor. I wonder if anyone knows anything further about the plans, and whether they are indeed on schedule. I don't know how bad the issue was before as seems to have seen and heard mixed resports, but would love to hear from anyone 'in the know'.

Thanks everyone

Helicopter over Surbiton and Long Ditton

Does anyone know why a helicopter keeps hovering over Long Ditton / Surbiton most evenings for the last few nights? It was nearby at 1.30 a.m. this morning. Is it just an exercise ?

Hotel Bosco Lounge Bar - who do they think they are ?

I went into the Bosco Lounge Saturday night for a drink with my husband. There were lots of empty tables, and after ordering a drink I looked for a nice table to sit and have a relaxing couple of hours. Every table was Reserved. And empty. The waiter wouldn't let us sit down at any of them ! Just a hint - Bosco is overpriced, up its own derriere and doesn't deserve custom. Go elsewhere ! At least the Coronation is friendly - and a darn sight cheaper.

Wheel clamping at Surbiton station

I was wheel clamped in Surbiton station several years ago when refurbishment works were ongoing.

The 2 disabled spaces had the markings moved to half way back and a car in the first space (possibly left by the clampers) obscured the disabled marking of the second space, so you did not know not to park there. Also the warning signs were half way up the lamp posts and angled so as to be invisible.

I was there for 4 minutes buying flowers and was clamped.

Surbiton Station Public Footbridge & Permit Holders Carpark

Do you use the public footbridge that goes over the railway by the East end of Surbiton Station? If you do, how often have you noticed the very dirty state of it - frequently I suspect! Surbiton Station is supposed to be an iconic piece of 30's architecture but it is totally spoilt by the very dirty state of that area. It is nearly always 'covered' in litter but more noticeable is the fact that any cleaning that may be done on odd occasions does not include the sides underneath the bike wheel channels or indeed the walls of particularly the overbridge itself!
