Idle chit chat about Surbiton

Staff on Waitose Deli Counter

Is it my imagination but are the staff on the deli counter at Waitrose in Surbiton, more interested in turning their backs on their queue of customers and having a chat ? One lady in particular springs to mind, I thought the customer was more important than that ? there was one member of staff behind the counter dealing with cheese and meat, and three members of staff leaning on the glass and having a good chin wag. I mentioned this to the Del-boy manager once, he couldnt have cared less.

Vince the hairdresser - where's he gone?

I've had my hair cut for ages by the wonderful Vince at Hair by Mitch on the Brighton Road. I've just phoned to make an appointment to discover that he has left.

Please help if you know where he is, or can give me any clues. I've got a job interview next week and a Vince haircut will give me confidence.

Lesson for life - if you have a hairdresser that you really like, make sure you exchange email addresses with them during the good times, just in case...

Waitrose Refurbishement

I see judging by the lack of frozen food being stocked and the sign outside the doors, the long overdue refurb is taking place. The place is falling to pieces at the seems!

I wonder if they will close.

New Job Idea

Hi All, I am a new member on this forum and I would like some advise.

I have been living in Surbiton for last 4 years. I am a network engineer by profession. I have been thinking about giving one-to-one tution on Networking. Specificly on CCNA. As you might know, now a days a career certification is so important in this job market. But getting a proper hands on training in Cisco for a dececnt price is rare. Most of the time students cramped into one room, share the devices. Or they are charged huge amount.

Horses tied up along the By Pass

I always feel sorry for the horses tethered up along the bypass off Woodstock Lane North, just past Squires. You can also see them on the right hand side between the long grass, before you get to the Cap in Hand sliproad off the A3 going towards London. These horses are owned by travellers from Claygate, they tie the horses up on this waste ground between all the traffic, day and night in all weathers with no shelter and possibly nothing to drink, I really feel for this especially in this hot weather. Can't something be done?

office or retail space required

Does anyone have a small area at the back of a retail shop to rent out, perhaps someone who would enjoy a little additional money to pay some bills, and who wouldn't mind some of their window space being used for advertising purposes (travel business)?

Or just willing to rent out 'window' space.

Preferably looking within Surbiton

Freeview HD and Aerial installers in Surbiton

I recently upgraded to a Freeview HD box and found that my reasonably new aerial will not pick up any of the HD channels.

Has anyone else been able to do so? The coverage checker says that the whole area is covered from the Crystal Palace mast.

I'd like to get an aerial installer to come and look at it, but all of them that I have spoken to suggest a brand new aerial, where as others have advised I just need a 'masthead amplifier'. I don't want to get up on the roof myself, but I don't want to shell out £180 on an aerial that is not needed.

Trees on Maple Road

Can anyone confirm what type of tree is growing along Maple Road between Brighton Road and Cleveland?

English language

Has anyone else noticed how appalling the spelling and construction of sentences has become on this site.

Is this the result of the billions Ed Ball and his cronies have poured into the Education system and if so how on earth will people ever get jobs in commerce?
