We're currently suffering an automated attack that's posting spam comments on our site. These attacks are usually short lived, but in the meantime we've decided it's best we disable email notification until the attack is over.
Our spam detection software works well ensuring the messages aren't posted to the site, but it seems some users were still being sent emails notifying them of new comments.
Seasons greetings to all our users. We hope you all have a great holiday and a prosperous new year.
This has been another very exciting year for us, thanks to your continued support and feedback. Please don't ever stop talking to us - we really do appreciate every comment on what you like and dislike about the site.
For all those who missed Saturday's Surbiton Festival, Surbiton.com have now added an events calendar.
The calendar should give you plenty of warning of any upcoming activities. Registered users can submit their own events for inclusion using the online form.
Eagle-eyed users may have noticed a change on the site today. In order to combat an increasing problem with 'spambots', Surbiton.com now requires users to solve a simple mathematical question before posting comments anonymously.
Over the weekend the Surbiton.com web site underwent a complete overhaul and by the time you read this will be ready for you, it's users. Though outwardly there won't appear to be much difference, you'll immediately notice a snappier and responsive site.
The Surbiton.com news feed is turning into a list of local crime. There's good news out there, it's just not reported so much in the local papers.
The fact is our news articles are taken from stories published on the internet and most news sites prefer headline-grabbing crime stories, which gives visitors to this site a very unbalanced image of Surbiton.
In view of this we're asking users to make more use of our Submit News feature to post their own articles about local events and news happening in the neighbourhood.
While we're on the subject, Surbiton has a very high-ranking hockey team, and the Berrylands Lawn Tennis Championship is world-renowned. In light of this Surbiton.com would like to enlist the assistance of a sports writer. If you're interested in donating a couple of hours, please use the Feedback link to get in contact with us.
