SWT makeover for bad service

South West Trains have anounced their Open Network (ON) initiative that's intended to give their train service a facelift.

Though £1.5 million is being spent, no extra services are being introduced. The Transport for London concept is being piloted in Kingston, Norbiton and New Malden though presently they have no intention to include Surbiton.

The scheme's purpose is to retune peoples thinking of the service giving it more of an London Underground feel through rebranding and advertising, though it's unlikely people will be too impressed with the unchanged services once they try them.

The Kingston Guardian is running a picture feature on the Surbiton festival. I couldn't spot me in them though.

Go the whole Hog

Fancy walking for 7 miles along the Hogsmill River? If you want company, turn up on Sunday 12 October and you're not likely to be alone.

The Hogsmill Action Group are organising a walk along the river.

The walk will be starting from Charter Quay in Kingston at 10am striding on to the Hogsmill Tavern in Worcester Park in time for lunch. Then, if you can manage it, onwards to Bourne Hall in Ewell Village.

The local Ecology and Environmental Education Officer, Marie Claire Edwards will be on hand to point out all the interesting stuff, along Stewart Cocker, Epsom and Ewell's Countryside Community Development Manager, who'll be at the pub to take you on for the next leg.

Imposition of Residents parking in River Roads

Did anyone want this? I'm totally fed up with the council, they seem to think they have unlimited rights to squeeze money out of residents, to spend on stupid schemes. Consider the barriers along Maple road; what are they for? They must have cost tens of thousands, and serve pretty much no purpose. Or the conservation area signs at the end of each and every road, which really are completely useless, and cost tens of thousands each.

The new scheme has reduced the number of parking spaces, and introduced yet another tax on residents. Neither of these where mentioned in the public meeting.

Biggest Festival yet?

Visiting Surbiton

I know we are a small group but no one has sent a message for over three months!

I shall be visiting the old home town on Saturday and hope to meet a friend for a drink and chat in the Surbiton Club in St James's Road.
Did you know the Cottage Hospital in the same road has been redeveloped into apartments and houses. They had to build them to look like the Victorian houses opposite.

Wishing you all the best

Peter (now in Dorchester but recently moved.. good I have found time to write here again)
