Surbiton estate agents donating profits to charity

THE OWNERS of a new Surbiton estate agents are going to donate money to charity for every letting or sale they make.

Jim Akerman and Hammad Afzal, owners of Avenu, in Brighton Road, will give a fixed amount of £50 for every sale and £15 for every letting to their chosen charities, Special Olympics Surrey and Councillor Shiraz Mirza's Pakistan Flood appeal.

The pair want to give something back to the community and are hoping that as the business expands they will be able to donate larger sums to help the two causes.

Postal workers march through Kingston

HUNDREDS of postal workers descended on Fairfield Park on Saturday to protest government plans to privatise the Royal Mail.

Flags, banners and placards were on show as workers from all over the country visited the town to oppose the plans, which are being pushed through by postal affairs minister and Kingston and Surbiton MP Ed Davey.

Speakers from the Communications Workers Union (CWU) addressed the crowds before leading the postal workers on a march through the town centre.

This year celebrates a decade since Ace Osteopaths opened in Surbiton, and owners Oliver and Kathy O'Callaghan Brown are hoping to reminisce.

Burglar jailed for six years for targeting elderly and vulnerable

A PROLIFIC Kingston burglar who preyed on the elderly and the vulnerable has been jailed for six years.

On Tuesday, James Anthony Mark Hall, 34, was sentenced to six years after admitting to five burglaries and and four years after admitting to two attempted burglaries.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

Hall had been targeting elderly residential and warden assisted care homes since 2009 in the Kingston, Surbiton and Wimbledon area.
