Idle chit chat about Surbiton

Slough & Surbiton!

Well, Twitter tells us that Slough Ladies Hockey Team is to join forces with Surbiton! Stunning! Or, on reflection, NOT. Who gives a ****? In any case - pardon me for being a snob, but the connection with Sludge doesn't inspire me.

About as interesting as the "news" that "a woman from Tolworth has organised a charity ball in Weybridge".

Touch of Dutch - Ewell Road

Hi Everyone.
I am desperately trying to find out when Touch of Dutch is open on Ewell Road. I am getting married in a week, and need to get some things from there, but everytime I pass it, it's closed. The lady owner seems lovely, but I can't track her down for love nor money!

Anyone have any secret insider information!!!?? I am desperate!!

What's The Point Of All This Twittering/Tweeting (Whatever It's Called)?

Seems to me that all this stuff from twitterers/tweeters (whatever they're called) is just of no possible interest on a community web-site. If they're not moans about public transport (try contacting TFL, or SW Trains ... or even the Police), they're arrangements/suggestions to meet for a drink (try writing an e-mail or a text-message), or are simply adverts (try free newspapers & estate agents). Better still - SHUT UP!

wood flooring restoration

Can anyone help...? We've got block parquet in our 60's flat and are looking for a local company the sand, stain, seal, fill gaps and restore small areas where blocks are not sitting flat, are chipped and lifting.
We've had some complete cowboys in (don't ever use Carter Magee - they haven't even returned our keys!) and the floor needs completely re-working.

There are areas of different woods (stair treads & parquet) that need to be stained to match for colour.

Having been very messed around we're looking for someone trustworthy and who can carry out some quality work.

Make Politicians work

Most pundits expect the General election in May 2010 on the same day as the Kingston council elections. In Kingston & Surbiton the vote will be very close, and both the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats will be pounding the streets canvasing for your vote. Most of us have local issues important to us. The candidates will make their usual promises, but once elected, well you know the story. It is my intention to meet these candidates and confront them. But, I shall not accept their verbal promises. If they want my vote then they put their signature on my form which will have my concerns.

Corky's Bar - what would it take to get it closed down?

Has anyone else noticed that Surbiton's worst bar has got a bit out of control lately?

There was a full fight outside there a week ago, and it was full of police again last night. There is now a sign on the door that says 'Due to violant (sic) attacks on staff and customers there will be no admissions after midnight.' Nice!

Surely, the police can demand that the place is shut down if it carries on being run like this? I realise that the undesirables who drink here will only go somewhere else if it was to be shut, but I think that there would be some value in dissipating them a bit.

HELP ! Good Sunday Lunch

Are there enough coffee shops in Victoria Road?

I havnt counted them all yet but I sense that there are over 5 distinct and separate coffee shops on Victoria Road although i think one was lost recently. Is this enough? has it finally hit saturation point or is there an insatiable thirst for expensive cappuccinos? would a mega coffee shop in the old woolworths create too much competition (I note that Coffee Republic is not yet represented on Victoria Road). Do other roads deserve a chance at the cafe society? EG Ewell Road?
