Idle chit chat about Surbiton

moving to surbiton?? advice please!!

hi all,

my husband and I are looking to move in to rented accommodation within the next couple of months, with our 2.5yr old and 8 month old. we moved from claygate - where ive lived all my life, to Walton on thames for hubbys job to cut the commute down. however, we don't love the area and I want to go back to the "K3 bus route". hubbys job is now taking him in to London so was thinking Surbiton would be ideal.

I would be grateful for any advice about whether to join Nuffield Health Gym in Surbiton. Is it good value for money?

Surbiton Town Cars rip off warning

I have been using Surbiton Town Cars for quite some time now without any problems.

This weekend I used them for a journey that I do quite often and it normally costs about £40. Last night, the driver decided that it was going to be more than double that. I didn't mind too much because he agreed to come and pick us up and do the return journey at quite a late hour.

He turned up on time and got us back quickly, but then asked for the same amount again! So, in total he was expecting to be paid £180 instead of £80 for the round trip!

KFC mess

Hi forum

I walk down Victoria Ave everyday to get to the train station for my commute (don't get me started on SWT;)...and whenever i pass KFC i have to dodge puddles of liquid waste. It seems to leak from their rubbish area and "garden". I've no idea what it is, but it smells and it's disgusting! Now that the nights are getting darker, coming home is even worse because you can't even see where you're stepping :S

Just wondering does this bother anyone else, or is it just me? Has anyone ever complained either to KFC or the council?

Majestic gone - Brighton Road starting to look a bit sad?

I walked along Brighton Road for the first time in a while at the weekend and I noticed that Majestic Wines has shut down there.

This leaves Brighton Road looking quite sad now as that is a big shopfront combined with the empty Blockbuster right next door. There was already the RJ Boorer closure and the shop next to the Red Rose restaurant that has been empty for years on end.

Handyman

Hello everyone,

I am looking for a good, reasonable handyman to hang up some items on the wall of my flat. I rent so it's really important that it's done to an excellent standard.

Would appreciate any recommendations you have.

Thanks.

Surbiton book club

We set up a book club over a year ago using this site and recently some of our members have moved away so we're looking for a couple more people.

We meet around once a month in Surbiton and read a variety of books.

If you're interested please e-mail me on laura_j86@hotmail.co.uk

Thanks

South West Trains getting worse again?

I had a look on the SWT website today and they were talking about 'severe delays until 21.00' due to a person hit by a train at Wimbledon.

Obviouly it is very sad to hear about this happening to someone, but is SWT's response acceptable?

This was about 1pm, so even if the incident had just happened, that is giving them 8 hours to clear up and recover from the incident. Surely this is far too long?

I realise that the police have to be called, the power turned off and then there is a knock on effect with trains in the wrong places etc, but how long can it really take?
