Idle chit chat about Surbiton

Surbiton station among the most crime-ridden in London!!

Surbiton station is infested with criminal scum making life hell for commuters! South West Trains as expected dont give a sh*t!

You can make a difference by contacting Alison Reynolds the station manager and demanding she tightens security with more guards on platforms and more cctv cameras.

Phone : 0870 0005 151, ext 62755

Or why not call our local MP Ed Davey and tell him to do something. Phone: 020-8288 0161

Security has always been a high priority for Ed as he has worked closely with Simon Hughes MP and Mark Oaten MP and therefore needed to protect his behind.

And now for something that really effects Surbiton!!!

We have recently been looking at leasing a building for a new business in Surbiton High Street, we found what we thought was an ideal location, next to the old post office. We knew that the old post office and sorting office (St Mary's Road) is going to be redeveloped and we looked into finding out more about the plans, possible disruption to our new business might be

South West Trains or Sh*t West Trains?

Train fairs have exploded!!
Rail fares have gone up well above the rate of inflation – with some tickets going up by nearly 9%.

On SWT the rise is not 3.9% but nearly 9% because they have withdrawn the discount they previously gave because of their poor punctuality. Have timings improved to match the timetable? No - they have moved the goalposts to match what the trains are actually doing.

They have also removed 23% of the seats on the trains but somehow reduced the space in those that are left.
"Thank You for travelling with SWT" they say on arrival at Waterloo every morning - as if we had a choice!

Monitoring Pubs in Surbiton (given we have 24 hour drinking)

This link provides a list of pubs in Surbiton + their addresses and phone numbers.

Just in case any of these establishments and their punters are proving to be a social menace why not phone them up and give them a piece of your mind.

pubs with extended licensing hours in Surbiton

I can't find a list of pubs which have sucessfully applied for extended opening hours on the Kingston borough website. I think it would be useful to have a thread on here about it where people can post which pubs are open late and what time they shut for all you 'binge drinkers' out there.

I'll start:

The Maypole opens until 1.30am at weekends

What's Surbiton like now?

I was at Kingston Poly twenty years ago and I lived at Clayhill in Surbiton.

I loved it! I would like to return to Surbiton when I finish my new degree in a few years time.

What's Surbiton like now? There seemed to be a bit more litter on the streets when I visited in in Jan 2004.
A lot more crime too! You could wander around at night without getting hurt twenty years ago.

tree in southbank rd

A couple of weeks ago a mature tree was chopped down in southbank rd (the one leading down the hill to the back of surbiton station). It stood outside Beauclere House - actually a block of flats. It was on your right about half way down the hill - at one end of a street flowerbed.
The council say it was a sycamore but from my recollection it was an oak.

Can anyone help on the id?

Car damaged, culprit seen, What would you do?

It's a sad reflection of modern society.

The other morning I noticed a car, which had managed to squeeze in behind mine the previous night, being hurriedly manouvered out of its space as it made its bid for freedom. In doing so it scraped the back of my car, leaving damage to both cars, before driving off.

I was too far away to remonstrate with the driver, in time.

Not only do I find this extremely rude, it could potentially leave me out of pocket!

Would you approach the driver at the next opportunity, leave a note or follow some other course of action?

Go Players in Surbiton?

Hi,

Is there anyone in Surbiton who would like to meet up on the odd evening to play Go? I'm very rusty, but have my own set :-)

Peter (pwedge@brookes.ac.uk).
