Idle chit chat about Surbiton

Why no aircraft noise now?

Is it just that the Concorde has stopped flying or have aircraft really got much quieter?

Bus Route Shake Up - Kingston & Surbiton

What does everyone think of the London Buses shake up due to happen at the end of July 2007:

1) Bus routes 406 and 418 will no longer serve St Marks Hill, Surbiton Station, Claremont Road and Surbiton Crescent. They will instead divert via Surbiton Hill Road (Hollyfield School). I strongly object to this plan.
The 418 will be made double deckers on all services and its evening and sunday services will be increased.
Both routes 406 and 418 will be taken over by Quality Line (I hold reservations about this, but am willing to give them a chance). This route is currently operated by Transdev London United from Tolworth Garage.

In praise of Surbiton

I tried hard to find something good to say about this genteel decaying place but could not.
Could someone please say something good about living in this expensive, impossible to park and filthy town.
At least if it was Wandsworth the Council Tax would be only a fraction of ours.

Surbiton - The Land That Time Forgot

Does anyone know why the clock tower in Claremont Road has been covered in scaffolding for months. And months. And months? And when, if ever, anyone will bother to fix the station clock.

Bus from Surbiton to Richmond please!

Apparently, a good few years ago, there was a bus from Surbiton to Richmond. Where has it gone?! Could it come back?? Or could the 65 be extended by a couple of miles? I know loads of people in Surbiton/Thames Ditton/Tolworth who work in Richmond and we all have to get 2 buses every day or travel all the way to Clapham to come back again! It's only 20 minutes in the car, so if we want to be 'greener' and encourage people not to use cars, please, PLEASE reinstate the Surbiton to Richmond bus! IS anyone else out there frustrated by this? (Apart from this, and the lack of recycling points in the

Orange mobile network coverage in Surbiton

Has anyone else noticed that for the last couple of months there has been virtually no Orange network coverage in most of Surbiton? I never had a problem before, having lived here on and off for 6 years. Coverage drops as soon as you arrive at the station on a train. It's a nightmare! I know several other people who have this problem, just wondering if anyone else has noticed it.

It's probably something to do with asylum seekers, polish builders, communists or black people of course...

Has anyone else seen Deer in Surbiton??

Last night i had to go back to the office on Oakhill Grove (next to the bird sanctuary), and a Deer ran down the road passed me (It was at around 19:00 so i definately was still sober). Are there and deer known to be in the bird sanctuary??

The Old Post Office

Does anyone know what exactly is going to happen to the old Post Office building opposite Sainsburys? I know it's been closed for a number of years and there's lots of building work going on behind it, but I haven't heard anything about the actual Post Office building. I know plenty of people would disagree, but I reckon it would make an excellent (and intimate) live music/performance venue catering for all tastes.

This world is out of control

Listen up, fellow Surbitonians (although I think it should be Surbotanians cos I think that sounds nicer) where was I - oh yeah! What I 'm talking about is instant take-over, we storm the county hall in Kingston and declare revolution!

No more pie the eye, pie in the sky diktats from the people of Kingston! No more! Let's reclaim what is ours! We are the chosen ones!

I have made a deal with the People of New Malden Front and they are up for it as well. I said we'd give them 25% of the land (although we could turn on them after the revolution, do em over and have all the land to ourselves.)

St Andrews Primary School 1952 to 1955

Hello older Surbitonians,

Who remembers Miss Clutsom, Mr. Jennings, Mr. Horsley( with the thick glasses), Mrs. Hart, Mrs. Westlake and Mrs. Durrant, during the above period? I would love to swap memories of the wonderful experience of that little church school. If there is anybody out there who was in Mrs. Durrant's class from 1954 to 1955 please contact me on KnnPet@aol.com or share memories on this site.
