Idle chit chat about Surbiton

"Queen of the Surburbs-Improvement Strategy Consultation-Spring 2009" questionnaire

I've just received this questionnaire from Kingston Council.

Surbiton town centre is a thriving and cherished area of the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames. With its rich heritage of Victorian and Edwardian architecture and excellent rail connections to London and the South coast, it continues to justify its reputation as "Queen of the Suburbs".

Hotel Bosco

What has happened to the cool bar, Hotel Bosco.

It started off so promising but has gone massively down hill, the food is now below standard and a far cry from the restaurant dining of last year , waiting time for drink and food is below acceptable.

I personally will never return to this establishment unless something drastic is done soon.

Football referee needed urgently

I'm chairman of Surbiton Churches FC and we have a game tomorrow that our referee has pulled out of.

The game is scheduled to kick off at 14.00 at Beverley Park, Park View, New Malden, KT3 4AX.

It is a league game (Southern Areas Christian Football League), therefore we need a Surrey County ref who has at least level 7 qualification. It will be an easy game to ref - guaranteed :)

We will pay £30.00 for your services.

Please contact me ASAP.

If you need a lift to and from your house we can provide this if you don't have transport.

Newsagents at Surbiton Station

Has anyone else noticed that the newsagents at the station has been taken over by a bunch of bozos! They never have any stock, never open early in the morning and the oyster card machine is never working. I was flabbergasted the other day when they could not even add a few items up as the till was not switched on. They had to use the calculator on their mobile phone. What a sorry state of affairs.

Can anyone help suggest a party venue?

Hi,

I hope someone reading this will be able to help. I am looking for a venue for a small party in or near to Surbiton. Ideally I would like to find a pub with a private function room for hire. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks.

Portsmouth Road

I see that finally, after many, many years, the boards surrounding the old petrol station on the Portsmouth Road between Surbiton and Kingston have been taken down. Does anyone have any idea what is being planned for the site?

Snowy Berrylands

If anyone wants to see a few pics of Berrylands in the recent snow, go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/dazzlemedia/sets/72157613251113739/
There's a few snowmen and an igloo too!

looking for lost relative

I am looking for a lost relative, now aged around 90 years. Can anyone direct me to a site or address where I can properly specify the details of the person I am looking for?

This is a family history type enquiry. The person I am hoping to make contact lived in Southwood Drive, Tolworth (Surbiton?), is as far as I am aware single, and born in 1919.

How have you been affected by the snowfalls?

I was left snowed in today. Couldnt take the car out. No buses and very few trains from Surbiton.
Anyone actually manage to get to work today?
