Idle chit chat about Surbiton

bin collection

Our street is a sight after collection of refuse on bin days, since the new recycling system was introduced in kingston.
Paper and plastic floating about all over.

Whats your experience?

Is there a better way?

Are we likely to get a better system?

Fag an bealach, boys!

Should Abusive Users of Surbiton.com Forums Be Investigated By The Aurthorities?

It's Nice To Be Important, But It is More Important To Be Nice.
This used to be a nice place to live, until the Hate-mongers moved in.
How do we go about evicting these trouble-makers?
Any suggestions people?

Really positive efforts to improve our borough and planet

Here's a really interesting local group who are making REAL efforts to save the environment.

http://savetheworldclub.org/

Apparantly local councillor Bart Ricketts is the chairman.
Not only is he a hard working councillor, who listens to his electorate, but he is an active environmentalist!
Impressive.

Get involved folks

Anonymous postings

Would it be a good idea to disallow anonymous postings on this forum?
I don't mean that the posters real name etc be available to all viewers, just that when somebody posts they have to have logged in under their own id and not be anonymous.
This would allow the administrators to block those that post aggressive missives more easily, and allow users to follow a specific posters train of thought more easily.

It might even encourage a few lurkers to step out of the background and contribute :-)

Just a suggestion.

Is this possible?

Surbiton flyer

Had a beer in the flyer tonight. My mate didn't want to go in there initially, but it seemed alright.
Does it have a bit of a rep?
What's the best pub in surbiton? I like the Vic, but am always open to new experiences.

Eviction of the illegal squatters on ravens ait

The illegal squtters on this island have been evicted, peacefully last night.

2 illegal squatters have been arrested.

A victory for common sense.

Well done to the councillors and police involved.

Shame that we have to spend money dealing with timewasters such as these squatters.

We will now have to recycle their rubbish for them.

I wondered why sapphire8 and her chums had gone quiet.
Don't expect any answers to my questions now... ;-)

Other people's opinions of Surbiton

I have lived in Surbiton for years and have always loved the place. I am constantly amazed by the low opinion that everyone seems to have of Surbiton. I was out in London drinking on the weekend and the subject came up. People generally fell into 3 distinct groups:

1. Those who came from outside London did not like Surbiton because it was part of London. They picture it as a place with no green space, lots of violence and pollution.

Regency Bookshop — a real gem

Not many small towns can boast their own independent bookshop these days. But in Surbiton we're lucky to have The Regency Bookshop on Victoria Road. OK, it can't compete with the likes of Borders or Waterstones in terms of stock, but the owners are extremely friendly and knowledgeable and can order most books for next day collection. Many's the time I've spent the odd hour browsing the shelves only to find just the book I was looking for; sometimes less is more. I have no connection with the shop what's so ever, but I'd urge locals to use the shop as much as possible.

The removal of squatters from Ravens Ait

I have heard from Ed Davey MP that there is a plan in place to remove the squatters from Ravens Ait and bring some normality back to the area. More details will follow but I do know there is a grassroots desire by locals to rid our town of these people! Great news!
